Rode this board over the weekend in two very different conditions and I loved it. I’m 6’4”, 205 lbs size 12 boots, and ride advanced terrain. 164W size board.
My quick summary is that the board is a contraction: nimble and quick, but long and stable. Groomer cruiser, but excels in powder. Here’s the full review:
Day 1 was hard and icy and this board outperformed my expectations for that weather. There are some other boards with better ice grip (ex: Magne-Traction), but the PYL was still great. It feels nimble and turns quickly, but somehow stays stable at high speeds, which you usually can’t find in the same board. The sidecut is unique, where you have three different radiuses, and you can take advantage of that by leaning back for quick, springy turns or leaning foreword for long carves.
Day 2 was a powder day and the board felt stable and floaty. Gets a little bumpy in the chop, but I’m not sure what board doesn’t. There wasn’t a point in the two days where I felt the board wasn’t perfect for the conditions. Also very stable off jumps and drops. I was surprised at how confident I was in my landings.
A few minor complaints: it’s not very wide for a “Wide” board. The unique sidecut can kick you around in certain conditions, not horrible, but I felt it catch a couple times. If anything, I wouldn’t mind it being a little stiffer, which is the PYL XTRM, but that doesn’t come in my size. No issues with durability, but I’ll keep an eye on that.
If you’re considering this board and ride in multiple conditions, you’ll be happy.
